When the Ministry of Education informed affected teachers of the pending mergers of schools, they were assured that no one will face retrenchment as a result of the exercise.
Still, there was concern about adjusting to a new teaching environment or being redeployed.
Teachers may be posted to different schools, reassigned to the ministry, or might even be required to teach at different levels than they have been used to. Such teachers will be provided with bridging courses and networking sessions to enable them to adjust.
The Singapore Teachers’ Union said that any transfer of teachers between schools would not be easy especially for those who held their post for a long time. It added that there should be a fair representation of personnel from both schools involved in a merger.
